Grand Knight Column

We start this month out on a sad
note, Fr. Bill; our Chaplin for the past six
years has retired.  We helped him
celebrate this bitter sweet moment by
honoring him with a brunch and giving
him a plaque for all his service to the
Knights over the years.
These are trying times for us and the
Catholic Church. In the last six years, we
have seen the closing of our grade school,
several of the Nuns being reassigned, Fr.
Forbes retiring and now Fr. Bill.  Now
Star of the Sea is closing along with
Wildwood Catholic.  We as Catholic
Gentlemen have to support our Church
and the Priests of our parish, but we are
wondering what will happen to our
children and our community.  We as
Knights can not break the oath we took
to support without question the decision
of the Church through the Bishop, but as
fathers, members of the community we
question why.  We pray and have faith in
our religion that what is happening is for
the best but when you see how it affects
the people and especially the children of
this community we can’t help but
wonder, is this the best path for us?
As these changes occur, we will
continue to support the children to
receive a Catholic education.  With the
closing of the high school, many parents
may opt to send their children to the
local public school instead of having them
travel over an hour each way to the
nearest Catholic high school.  There may
be changes in the way we disperse the
funds.  We will still support our high
school children, but focus more on the
younger children, so that they can
benefit from a Catholic education in their
formative years. I ask that each of you
continue to support our Church and our
Council in these trying times.
On a more social note, we have our
delicious crab cakes for sale.  They are
still just $5.  We will have our first of
two Fish Fry dinners on the first Friday
of Lent, Feb. 19th.

present your card when attending the
Council Meeting, you will not be
admitted into the meeting. We are not
trying to be punitive but trying to
follow the rules of the Order.
